Our planet
Datatec Group
Datatec has made a commitment to improve our environmental performance across the Group and to contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet. Our teams dedicated FY22 to building an understanding of the Group's environmental performance, and establishing an ambitious roadmap for improving the organisation's impact on the planet. The year saw an increase in the number of sustainability initiatives implemented worldwide, and more consistent reporting across sustainability platforms such as EcoVadis.
The CDP is an internationally acclaimed initiative that is driven by over 600 institutional investors representing in excess of US$100 trillion in assets; with the objective of gaining greater visibility into how companies are managing the risks and opportunities in response to climate change. In 2021, Datatec reported to the CDP for its EMEA and US operations, achieving a B, which was an improvement from the previous year's submission. In FY23, Datatec will have every region reporting into the CDP for the first time, which will provide insight to and a baseline of our carbon emissions across operations worldwide. Each subsidiary is making environmental and greenhouse gas commitments that are focused on targets related to scope 1 and scope 2 carbon neutral and net zero, and in FY22, Datatec became a supporter of the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures.
A significant piece of work planned for FY23 is to undertake science-based target development, and the associated development of a carbon reduction plan and roadmap to registration with the Science-Based Target Initiative.

Westcon International
Westcon International is dedicated to conducting its business in a responsible and sustainable way, through Our Planet, working to improve its environmental performance across the division and to contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet. Westcon International is committed to proactively protecting the environment.
Strategic progress
Westcon International is investing in improving its ESG performance and assessing new ways to take meaningful action to reduce its carbon footprint.
Westcon International made substantial progress on corporate sustainability in FY22. FY22 was the first performance period for its new ESG rating platform EcoVadis. An independent gap analysis was conducted, and recommendations outlined for a multi-year improvement plan. The implementation of these recommendations has commenced and Westcon Europe was rewarded with an improved score and the award of a bronze medal rating in recognition of its performance. EcoVadis profiles have now been created in the Asia-Pacific region and the assessment process is underway. This will give Westcon International a clear view on gaps and improvement areas for the region. Westcon International's EcoVadis scores will continue to be a key metric in measuring performance across ESG topics through FY23.
Climate strategy
Westcon International is committed to setting a Net Zero strategy across its entire value chain. In co-operation with an independent climate consultancy, EcoAct, it has developed a five-year roadmap that will provide a foundation for its future environmental initiatives. An agreement in principle has already been reached to set a number of short-term and long-term targets linked to decarbonisation. Work to establish a baseline in support of formal target setting is already in progress as Westcon International collects emissions data as part of its annual CDP submission. The geographical scope of the data collection has been expanded this year to include the Asia-Pacific region which will give a complete picture of Westcon International Scope 1 and 2 emissions for the first time.
Environmental priorities – FY23
- Establish key metrics for ESG reporting dashboard
- Improve both the accuracy and efficiency of waste and recycling reporting through ERP enhancements
- Implement and certify its operations across both EMEA and Asia-Pacific to the ISO14001 standard (environmental management) with a view to providing practical tools to help implement its sustainability strategy and better manage its environmental responsibilities
- Anticipated benefits are improved efficiency, reduced waste and a better understanding of ever-evolving legislation
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with vendors on ESG topics

- Required data of new products sold is collected and submitted to the appropriate authorities – mainly in Europe but gearing up to meet other countries' future waste requirements
Vendor collaboration
An example of a collaboration initiative – Cisco Digital Sustainability Challenge:
